Athletes and athlete watchers, unite!

Angelenos now have two easy ways to support cancer research and have fun in the nation’s second-biggest city at the same time.

Bike riders can participate in an upcoming tour throughout Los Angeles, and baseball fans can buy discounted tickets to see the Los Angeles Dodgers ― all to benefit ThinkCure.

ThinkCure, the official charity of the Dodgers, supports cancer research at City of Hope and Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.

ThinkCure is one of the official charities of the Los Angeles Marathon and the Acura LA Bike Tour, which run on Memorial Day, May 25. The nonprofit is rallying cyclists to ride in the tour for ThinkCure and raise money to fight cancer.

To be a ThinkCure rider, participants are asked to raise at least $200. “Participants can easily reach that goal by asking friends for modest support,” said Janet Clayton, president of ThinkCure.

In return, cyclists will get an up-close view of the neighborhoods of Los Angeles in a way seldom seen: without any cars, buses or red lights. ThinkCure riders also will receive a unique ThinkCure T-shirt, discounts at designated bike shops and access to the ThinkCure VIP tent. In addition, anyone who raises $1,500 or more also will be invited to watch a game at Dodger Stadium in a ThinkCure suite.

The easy 22-mile ride on the closed course starts at 5 a.m., before the marathon begins. The ride starts and ends near the University of Southern California campus, and even recreational cyclists should be able to complete it in two hours or less. Cyclists may ride any bicycle to participate, from a beach cruiser to a road bike, but they need a helmet and water bottle. Entry fees for the bike tour are waived for ThinkCure participants, and all finishers earn a medal.

Maps, registration, fundraising information and ride details are available at www.thinkcure.org/bikeride. Participants may also set up their own teams or join the City of Hope team. Anyone needing help setting up their fundraising page may contact sarah.gallagher@thinkcure.org.

Dodgers fans also can support the effort against cancer just by watching baseball games, and do it at a discount. Tickets are available in all sections for certain games throughout the season at a significantly reduced price. For each of these tickets purchased, the Dodgers will make a donation to ThinkCure.

For tickets, go to www.thinkcure.org and click the “Buy Dodgers tickets at a discount” link on the left side of the page. Ticket discounts and donations to ThinkCure only apply to tickets purchased through this special offer.
