Library dishes dessert — and databases

The Lee Graff Medical and Scientific Library serves faculty, staff and researchers; and on July 20, it also served ice cream.

Jenny Muccillo and Daisy RiveraIn the summer heat, Graff Library staff and volunteers invited the City of Hope community to an ice cream social in Bolsky Plaza to share information about the library’s resources. Staff members stationed throughout Graff Library offered tutorials and answered questions about how to check out and renew books, find full-text journals, search databases such as MEDLINE and Lexis-Nexis, and use the online catalog.

With more than 200 people in attendance throughout the afternoon, library staff saw the open house as a huge success. “The message we wanted to get across is that the library is for everyone, not just the doctors and graduate students, but for everyone on campus,” said Anne Dillibe, assistant director of Graff Library.

City of Hope has had a medical and scientific library on campus for more than 50 years. However, it was not until Lee Graff made a large donation — and encouraged her friends and family to donate, as well — that the current facility was built. It opened in August 1984.
