Teen pop star’s national tour raises funds

Teen pop music and television star Miley Cyrus has kicked off her much-awaited concert tour, and City of Hope is the tour’s beneficiary.

Buena Vista Concerts is donating $1 to City of Hope for each ticket sold, with a goal of raising more than $500,000 — a program orchestrated by City of Hope’s 2007 Music and Entertainment Industry Spirit of Life® honoree Bob Cavallo, chair of Disney Music Group.

“The music and entertainment industry has been supporting City of Hope through its annual Spirit of Life campaign for more than 30 years,” said Cavallo. “It was a natural fit to pair Miley Cyrus together with City of Hope. Their pediatric cancer program provides some of the most effective, compassionate treatment in the country, and their research is leading the future of medicine. We’re delighted to be able to partner with them in this way.”

In Cyrus’ “Best of Both Worlds” tour, which started on Oct. 18 in St. Louis, she performs both as a solo artist and as her popular television character Hannah Montana.

Her tour coincides with the recent release of her newest recordings. “Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus,” a two-disc set featuring songs from the second season of the Emmy-nominated series “Hannah Montana” and her debut as a solo artist, was released by Walt Disney Records and Hollywood Records in June.

Cyrus, star of the Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana” and a platinum-selling recording artist, visited the pediatric wing of City of Hope Helford Clinical Research Hospital, with her father — singer and actor Billy Ray Cyrus — in May. The father-and-daughter entertainers also performed at City of Hope’s 10th annual pediatric picnic in Los Angeles in June.
