Dealing with a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer is not easy, but City of Hope clinical social workers aim to give patients and their caregivers the support they need.
The Division of Clinical Social Work now offers a twice-a-month support group for patients with pancreatic cancer, as well as their family members and caregivers. Co-facilitated by Nellie Garcia, M.S.W., L.C.S.W., and Yona Kollins, L.C.S.W., the group provides valuable information, education and practical tips to help patients cope with treatment. Group members also will gain emotional support and encouragement from other patients and their caregivers.
The group began on Sept. 11. It meets every second and fourth Thursday of the month from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Y9 Conference Room in the Main Medical building.
City of Hope’s pancreatic cancer group is one of a variety of educational, problem-solving and support groups run through the Sheri & Les Biller Patient and Family Resource Center.
