Tickets to Dodgers benefit game offered to City of Hope employees

By Laurie Bellman

City of Hope employees can win a chance to purchase up to two pairs of tickets to the sold-out March 29 exhibition game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Proceeds from the game will go to ThinkCure, which advances cancer research at City of Hope and Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. ThinkCure is the official charity of the Dodgers.

Tickets cost $15 each and employees can enter the drawing by replying back to a campus-wide e-mail that will be sent out March 17. No telephone or paper entries will be accepted. Names will be randomly drawn and winners will be notified on March 19.

Game day will begin with a fan festival outside the stadium at noon, featuring activities for the whole family. Gates will open at 4:10 p.m., three hours before the first pitch, so fans may watch batting practice.

A record 115,000 tickets already have been sold, making this game a certain contender for the Guinness Book of World Records for the highest attendance at a single game for Major League Baseball.

The Dodgers previously set a similar baseball attendance record at the Coliseum, their home venue from 1958 to 1961. More than 93,000 fans attended a 1959 exhibition game with the New York Yankees — a game honoring Dodgers catcher Roy Campanella, who had been paralyzed in a car accident a year earlier.
