Children with cancer and other serious diseases at City of Hope now have a peaceful and safe outdoor place where they can spend time with their family members, thanks to generous donors Rita Cooper Finkel and J. William Finkel.

City of Hope dedicated the Rita Cooper Finkel and J. William Finkel Pediatric Family Terrace on April 19. Located on the third floor of City of Hope Helford Clinical Research Hospital, the pediatric terrace provides a serene space for patients, parents and other family members to gather. The space was specifically designed with children in mind and offers a tranquil fountain and foliage.

“The Pediatric Terrace is a reflection of City of Hope’s philosophy about comprehensive and compassionate patient care,” said J. William Finkel. “Patients often need a place to escape the rigors of cancer treatment, especially young cancer patients. Rita and I are so pleased to help make this terrace a reality and we hope it becomes a place where patients and families can spend quiet time together as they cope with treatment.”

Judith Sato, M.D., acting chair of the Department of Pediatrics and director of pediatric hematology/oncology and the Musculoskeletal Tumor Program, also spoke at the dedication.

The Finkels are longstanding supporters of City of Hope and members of the Angels of Hope Chapter, who have provided critical funding for important facilities such as the Rita Cooper Finkel and J. William Finkel Women’s Health Center.
