The walkers are coming.
In an annual tradition that welcomes thousands of visitors to the City of Hope campus — and provides critical funding for breast cancer research, treatment and education — the Los Angeles Walk for Hope to Cure Breast Cancer Nationally Presented by Staples will take place on Oct. 25.

“Improving our standards of care for women facing breast cancer depends upon research forging ahead for new answers and new cures,” said Shiuan Chen, Ph.D., co-director of City of Hope’s Breast Cancer Program. “There are so many promising approaches under investigation at City of Hope. The money raised by our Walk for Hope participants makes the crucial difference in studies and clinical trials that could save the lives of countless women worldwide.”
The fundraising walk in Duarte, Calif., is the culminating event in a series of nine nationwide. Since its inception, the national Walk for Hope has garnered more than $27 million for City of Hope’s fight against breast cancer.
Walk events in San Diego, Edison, N.J., Philadelphia, San Francisco, Chicago, Phoenix and Seattle are already complete. The Washington, D.C., event happens Oct. 11.
Walk for Hope brings a festival-like atmosphere to City of Hope. More than 9,000 survivors and supporters will take part, wending through campus along either a 5-kilometer route or a 2-kilometer leisure walk. The day features live music, sponsored giveaways and an area with fun activities for children.
To celebrate the contributions of the Pink Carpet Club — City of Hope employees who raise funds through Walk for Hope — organizers will stage a short program and free breakfast in the cafeteria for participating staff members before the event.
Walk for Hope’s national sponsors include presenting sponsor Staples, as well as Hilton HHonors, Ladies’ Home Journal and XM Radio’s PINK Channel. The L.A. event is presented by grocery retailer Albertsons/SavOn. Farmers Insurance Group, the Greater Los Angeles New Car Dealers Association and Wells Fargo are platinum-level local sponsors.
