Ross, who previously served as interim director of pharmacy from March to June 2008, will provide vision and leadership for all pharmacy services as well as for the Diagnostic Radiology, Pathology and Radiation Oncology departments. He will oversee the medication use process, including use of investigational products and Food and Drug Administration-approved pharmaceuticals and devices, to ensure safety and efficiency.

“Dan has done important work to ensure the safety of patients and to keep pharmacy services running smoothly. He brings a wide variety of leadership experience, and we believe he will be a tremendous asset to City of Hope,” said Adams.

For the past four years, Ross has provided consulting services to more than 75 hospitals and health systems throughout the nation, focusing on patient and medication safety, pharmacy operations, regulatory compliance and performance improvement. Since 2009, he has co-hosted Hospital Pharmacy Monthly, an audio continuing education program for pharmacy leaders.

Ross also has served as corporate director of pharmacy and medication safety for Catholic Healthcare West, working out of the organization’s Pasadena, Calif., headquarters to provide oversight of pharmacy services, direct the medication safety program and develop and maintain a clinical resource website for the 42-hospital system.

Previously, Ross served as chief operating officer for Integrated Support Solutions Inc. in Van Nuys, Calif., and held numerous positions of increasing responsibility at San Gabriel Valley Medical Center, including vice president and chief operating officer, vice president and clinical process manager and administrative director of pharmacy and support services. He also worked at Memorial Medical Center in Long Beach and at UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) Medical Center.

Ross has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals. He serves on the editorial board of California Journal of Health-System Pharmacy and on the advisory committee of the University of California, San Francisco’s Pharmacy Leadership Institute.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree at UCLA and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy.
