City of Hope’s Timothy Wilson, M.D., will share important information about prostate cancer and its diagnosis and treatment with hundreds of employees at major companies around the nation — without having to leave his office.

Wilson, the Pauline and Martin Collins Family Chair in Urology and director of the Prostate Cancer Program, will host a live webinar Sept. 15 as part of Community Health Charities’ Health Matters at Work program. Community Health Charities is an alliance of about 60 health-related nonprofits that work with corporations to encourage employee giving.

It is the first time a City of Hope physician has hosted such an online educational event.

Employees will be able to watch the hour-long webinar from their workplaces. Wilson will discuss prostate cancer risk factors, screening, diagnosis, treatment options, research and clinical trials. Viewers will interact with Wilson during a 15-minute question-and-answer session after his talk.

“This is a great opportunity to be of service and provide health information, as well as to generate greater national awareness and visibility for City of Hope with a large audience of employees from leading national companies,” said Mary Koenig, director of employee giving at City of Hope.

City of Hope’s Employee Giving Department collaborates with Community Health Charities, which works with about 60 corporations such as Amazon, GAP and American Express, as well as the Combined Federal Campaign — federal government employees’ workplace giving program.

The partnership raised more than $140,000 for City of Hope through employee giving in 2010.

Community Health Charities estimates that as many as 1,000 employees will view the webinar, which will not be accessible to the general public.
