SAVANNAH’S STORY
Savannah Yi is 8 years old and a second grader at La Fetra School in Glendora, Calif. She is the great-niece of City of Hope’s photography manager, Markie Ramirez, who has worked for City of Hope for almost 33 years.
Savannah said she first heard about the “Locks of Love” program (a nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to disadvantaged children suffering long-term hair loss from medical conditions) from a friend of her mother.
From time to time over the past year, Savannah would talk about getting her hair cut and donating it. Finally, she made up her mind and told her mom she was ready to do it.
Savannah said she wanted to donate her hair because “there are many little girls that do not have hair because they are sick.” She said her hair will grow long again and she wanted to do something that would help the young patients.
On Wednesday, December 20, 2006, Savannah and her mom arrived at TuLa Diva Salon in Glendora for the big day. Savannah was very happy that she did something nice for someone else and she also loves her new short hair!
Needless to say, Savannah’s parents, David and Stephanie Yi, are very proud of her, and so is her “Aunt Markie!”
