Welcome!
The City of Hope (COH) Postdoctoral Association (PDA) promotes interaction between postdoctoral fellows and graduate students, and helps to ensure that their time here is as fulfilling as possible. This Web site was created as a helpful resource for all postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and others, to answer questions and to help you get acclimated with the culture of City of Hope, of Southern California, and of the postdoctoral experience in general.
About Postdoctoral Fellowships at City of Hope
A postdoctoral fellowship is generally a short-term position that is often a springboard to a career, whether in academia, industry, government or elsewhere. Therefore, while spending plenty of time in the laboratory is essential, developing skills in grant/report writing, resume writing, applying for jobs and interviewing is also extremely important, in addition to meeting and socializing with other postdoctoral fellows on campus. The PDA’s Careers, Training and Events section provides helpful information and advice on these topics.
PDA Seminars
The PDA Seminar Series is a great way to meet other postdoctoral fellows on campus and hear about ongoing research. All postdoctoral fellows are encouraged to present and attend.
PDA Handbook
The PDA Handbook has been created to provide new postdocs with information about what to expect when they first come to City of Hope. It also includes useful immigration for postdocs from other countries. It should provide you with everything you need to explore City of Hope and southern California.
Postdoctoral Organization History
The City of Hope Postdoctoral Association (PDA) was initiated by Dr. Michael Reed, a fifth-year postdoctoral fellow in the Division of Biology. The organization was founded in April 2000 to serve the needs of City of Hope’s growing postdoctoral community, and is currently run by a steering committee.
