Marcia Grant, RN, DNSc, FAAN is a Professor and the Director of Nursing Research and Education, City of Hope National Medical Center. Her primary program of research focuses on symptom management and quality of life in cancer patients. Dr. Grant’s current studies focus on the effects of advance practice nurse-led post discharge teaching and follow-up for bone marrow transplant survivors, quality of life in ostomy patients, and improving end-of-life and cancer survivor care. She is Principal Investigator of the NCI funded study, Standardized Nursing Intervention Protocol for HCT Patients (SNIP), and an NCI project titled Survivorship Education for Quality Cancer Care.
Standardized Nursing Intervention Protocol for HCT Patients
The overall goal of this research is to improve outcomes for patients undergoing HCT by testing a Standardized Nursing Intervention Protocol for HCT Patients that integrates interdisciplinary patient teaching content.
Survivorship Education for Quality Cancer Care
The primary aim of this training proposal is to improve quality of care and quality of life for cancer survivors. The primary aim of this proposal will be achieved through four annual workshops for two representatives each from 50 cancer treatment centers.
Quality of Life Concerns for Patients Receiving IP Chemotherapy
This study, funded by the National Palliative Care Resource Center (NPCRC) describes QOL Concerns of patients receiving IP Chemotherapy across the trajectory of treatment.
Cancer Center Support Grant
The purpose of this center grant is to reduce cancer incidence, morbidity and mortality by providing an organizational structure and administration that enhances the quality and interdisciplinary nature of competitively funded cancer research activities. Dr. Grant is Co-leader of Cancer Control and Population Science.
Quality of Life in Colorectal Cancer Patients
This NCI-R01 renewal with Robert Krouse, MD (PI) and Marcia Grant as Co-Investigator studying QOL in colorectal cancer survivors with and without ostomies.
Oral Adherence Study
The increasing use of oral chemotherapeutic agents has created a new paradigm in cancer care. This new treatment paradigm shifts delivery of a toxic and potentially hazardous treatment regimen from a safe, controlled process, monitored on a regular basis by oncologists and oncology nurses in hospitals and outpatient infusion clinics to patients’ homes where dosing and management of symptoms and adverse side effects becomes the responsibility of the patient and their families.
Evidence-Based Nursing - UniHealth
The overall purpose of the training program is to address the need for developing evidence-based practice (EBP) skills in staff nurses. EBP combines current best scientific evidence with clinical expertise. It has developed in the health care professions as a way to assist in decision making regarding the best care for the individual patient. EBP combines skills related to the process of determining the strength of scientific evidence available with the translation of that evidence by clinicians into clinical practice. As a process, it involves locating and evaluating evidence. As an outcome, EBP is the translation of evidence into innovative practice changes.
