Major Department Objectives:
- Improve the treatment and prevention of diabetes and its major complications
- Advance islet transplantation therapy as a treatment and possible cure for type 1 diabetes
- Develop laboratory strategies for generating new islet cell sources
- Develop new strategies for inducing immune tolerance to transplanted islets
- Advance treatment options for endocrine cancers
- Identify and improve treatment of endocrine complications of other cancers
- Discover new molecular signaling and cellular mechanisms of metabolic and other endocrine disorders
- Provide comprehensive clinical and basic science fellowship training programs in diabetes and endocrine disciplines
