Mission Statement



To advance the care and treatment of diabetes and other endocrine-related disorders through innovative clinical and basic science research and advanced training of specialists.

Major Department Objectives:

  1. Improve the treatment and prevention of diabetes and its major complications
  2. Advance islet transplantation therapy as a treatment and possible cure for type 1 diabetes
  3. Develop laboratory strategies for generating new islet cell sources
  4. Develop new strategies for inducing immune tolerance to transplanted islets
  5. Advance treatment options for endocrine cancers
  6. Identify and improve treatment of endocrine complications of other cancers
  7. Discover new molecular signaling and cellular mechanisms of metabolic and other endocrine disorders
  8. Provide comprehensive clinical and basic science fellowship training programs in diabetes and endocrine disciplines
