Program Goals

Upon completion of the City of Hope Pharmacy Residency Program, pharmacist clinicians will be prepared for patient care, adjunct faculty positions or to enter PGY2 training in an area of choice.

Residents will grow the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve excellence in any pharmacy environment by developing core competencies to:

• Care for patients in different clinical settings
• Educate medical, pharmacy, and allied-health personnel
• Function as a member of a health-care team
• Foster a commitment to professionalism
• Manage their own practice
• Exercise leadership in improving safety of the medication-use system 

Curriculum
The curriculum of City of Hope’s Pharmacy Residency Program involves three components: core rotations, elective rotations and project based activities.

Core Rotations
By completing these core rotations, pharmacy residents gain the necessary breadth of knowledge to confront a variety of clinical problems:

• Internal Medicine/Infectious Disease
• Intensive Care Unit
• Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation
• Medical Oncology
• Hematology
• Medical Surgery
• Administration 

Electives
For pharmacy residents who seek additional training in specialty areas, the following elective rotations are offered (rotation length varies depending on particular rotation and scheduling considerations):

• Pediatrics
• Hematology Ambulatory Care Clinic
• Medical Oncology Ambulatory Care Clinic
• Investigational Drug Service
• Administration II
• Clinical Informatics
