City of Hope in the 1940's | Founded in 1913 by the Jewish Consumptive Relief Association as the Los Angeles Sanatorium, City of Hope originally formed to treat tuberculosis patients. In 1946, the institution launched an ambitious plan to transform the sanatorium into a national medical center, supported by a research institute and postgraduate education. Today, City of Hope comprises an innovative Medical Center, an NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Beckman Research Institute, and programs in graduate, clinical, and postdoctoral training.
The Archives collects, preserves, and manages the papers, artifacts, and pictorial materials that document the history of City of Hope, including manuscripts, correspondence, memoranda, notes, ephemera, photographs, film and artwork.
