 Building Hope

Photo of the Spirit of Life fountain at City of Hope Building Hope, a strategic initiative for emerging leaders in the Los Angeles real estate community, was founded in 2011 with the goal of raising funding and awareness for City of Hope.

Goals for the members of Building Hope are raising awareness of City of Hope’s mission and helping raise funds to find cures for cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases.  Benefits of joining Building Hope are networking with fellow real estate professionals, including the elite members of the LARE Council, as well as helping to support a state-of-the-art medical facility that saves lives.

Building Hope is governed by a committee which is comprised of up-and-coming real estate professionals “under 40” who share a commitment to helping support City of Hope’s life-saving mission. The committee establishes and enacts the strategic direction and initiatives for Building Hope, supported by the staff and resources of City of Hope.

City of Hope, which celebrates its centennial in 2013, is one of only 41 Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the country. Its research and treatment in cancer, diabetes and HIV/AIDS has made it a leader in “translational medicine,” or new therapies that emerge from doing research AND treatment at the same facility. City of Hope participates in more than 300 clinical trials every year. Clinical trials are the final steps before new therapies are available to patients.

For the past 15 years, City of Hope has worked with companies and professionals in Los Angeles’s real estate community to raise funds and awareness for this remarkable institution. The Los Angeles Real Estate (LARE) Council, spearheaded by Founding Chair Richard Ziman, includes the top professionals in banking, insurance, development, law, accounting, management and investment in the real estate sector. Both the LARE Council and City of Hope want to reach out to younger professionals to continue the support of City of Hope’s innovative research and compassionate patient care. Thus Building Hope was established.
