4/29/08 - Entertainment industry roasts Capitol Music Group Chairman and CEO Jason Flom at benefit for City of Hope
Friar’s Club Roast Master Jeffrey Ross to host Dee Snider, Fat Joe, Epic Records President Charlie Walk, Hits magazine’s Lenny Beer and special surprise guests at May 21 event.

04/24/08 - City of Hope Statement Regarding Appeal in Genentech Royalty Case
The California Supreme Court today issued a decision upholding a 2002 jury verdict of $300.1 million in compensatory damages in favor of City of Hope, for Genentech, Inc.’s breach of a 1976 agreement in which City of Hope entrusted a groundbreaking invention to Genentech that launched the biotechnology industry.

4/14/08 - Norman and Melinda Payson award $1 million gift to City of Hope through private foundation
Half of the gift will establish the Dr. Norman and Melinda Payson Graduate Studies Center, which will serve as a resource for future scientists in training within City of Hope’s graduate school. The remaining $500,000 will endow a graduate student fellowship at the school that will support the student stipends.

4/8/08 - Hundreds brave weather to fight cancer at Saturday’s third annual Hike for Hope
More than 300 representatives from High Point's business community and home furnishings industry members braved the rain and cold to fight cancer at the third annual Hike for Hope event the morning of Saturday, April 5.

4/1/08 - Make a difference in the fight against breast cancer at San Diego's Walk for Hope to Cure Breast Cancer, May 3!
Help support research and save lives at City of Hope’s ninth annual Walk for Hope to Cure Breast Cancer, Saturday, May 3, at the scenic University of San Diego campus. Walk for Hope supports the breast cancer programs at City of Hope, a leading cancer research and treatment center.

3/20/08 - W. M. Keck Foundation awards grant to continue City of Hope and Caltech collaborative lymphoma study
Researchers from City of Hope and the California Institute of Technology have been awarded a three-year, $1.5 million grant from the W. M. Keck Foundation to continue a collaborative study investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying lymphoma and developing targeted, less-toxic treatments for the disease based on short interfering RNA (siRNA) technology that can inhibit the protein products of specific genes.

3/20/08 - Industry VIPs celebrate rare wines at second annual Taste of Hope benefit for City of Hope
Members of the music and entertainment industry toasted the latest discoveries in cancer research with a tasting of vintage wines, dinner and the spectacular view from the Tribeca Rooftop in Manhattan at the second annual Taste of Hope dinner and wine auction on Wednesday, March 19.

More than 100 members of the national office products industry kicked off another yearlong fundraising campaign for City of Hope, a leading cancer research and treatment institution, with a tour of its Duarte, Calif., campus on February 26.

3/4/08 - Lennar Urban Regional Vice President Kofi Bonner to receive City of Hope’s Spirit of Life® Award
City of Hope’s Northern California Real Estate and Construction Business Alliance (REC) will present Kofi Bonner, regional vice president of Lennar Urban, with The Spirit of Life® Award, in recognition of his strong philanthropic commitment and significant role in revitalizing Bayview Hunters Point and other Bay Area communities.

3/3/08 - Alan Barry, retired Masco president and COO, honored at February 12 benefit for City of Hope
Executives from the hardware and homebuilding industry honored Alan Barry, retired president and chief operating officer of Masco Corporation, at a golf outing and reception on February 12 in Orlando.

3/3/08 - Brand Source's Bob Lawrence to be honored at annual golf and tennis benefit
Industry members are practicing their golf swings and backhands in anticipation of the 17th annual West Coast Golf and Tennis Tournament, a benefit for City of Hope.

2/19/08 - Hundreds to join 10th annual Hike for Hope benefit for women’s cancer research
Hundreds of hikers are expected at the 10th annual Hike for Hope event on March 2 in Palm Springs, a benefit for City of Hope. A non-competitive, family-oriented hiking event through the scenic Indian Canyons, Hike for Hope benefits City of Hope’s women’s research and treatment programs.

2/18/08 - Hundreds to hit downtown trail in third annual Hike for Hope, April 5
Representatives from High Point's business community and home furnishings industry members will take steps to fight cancer at the third annual Hike for Hope event the morning of Saturday, April 5.

1/30/08 - $5 million from former City of Hope scientist names new academic center at City of Hope
City of Hope has received a $5 million gift from Orly and Shmuel Cabilly, Ph.D. The gift will support the new Cabilly-Riggs Academic Center and will centralize City of Hope’s Graduate School of Biological Sciences, including dedicated space for teaching laboratories, classrooms and administrative offices, as well as a 150-seat auditorium for scientific seminars for students, faculty and outside scientists.

12/20/07 - City of Hope Receives $2 Million Gift to Endow Lester M. And Irene C. Finkelstein Chair in Biology
The gift will support basic research into the causes of cancer. Gerd Pfeifer, Ph.D., co-leader of City of Hope’s Cancer Biology Program and professor and chair, Division of Biology, is the first holder of the chair.

12/11/07 - City of Hope names E! Networks veteran to marketing and new business development post
Colleen Finn has joined City of Hope as senior director of marketing and new business development. In her new role, Finn will solicit and cultivate City of Hope’s national sponsors for various industry fundraising campaigns and consumer fundraising events. She will also direct the institution’s cause-marketing campaigns.

11/30/07 - City of Hope breaks ground on state-of-the-art Michael Amini Transfusion Medicine Center
Michael Amini, chairman and chief executive officer of AICO, Amini Innovation Corp., will join members of City of Hope’s leadership on Saturday, December 15, at a groundbreaking ceremony for the Michael Amini Transfusion Medicine Center.

11/14/07 - STOP CANCER grants boost City of Hope scientists’ studies into liver and blood cancers
The STOP CANCER organization has awarded career development grants to Wendong Huang, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Gene Regulation and Drug Discovery, and Takahiro (Taka) Maeda, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Hematopoietic Stem Cell and Leukemia Research at City of Hope.

11/05/07 - Police officers and sheriff’s deputies help knock out cancer at this year’s Fight for Life boxing event
Twenty men and women are lacing up their gloves in preparation for the 14th annual Fight for Life, a one-of-a-kind boxing benefit for City of Hope. On November 30, Los Angeles Police (LAPD) officers and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies will prove which department is tougher inside the ropes at the world-famous Los Angeles Sports Arena, 3939 S. Figueroa Street.

11/05/07 - SunCal’s Bruce Elieff honored at Disneyland Resort for leading $1.8 million campaign for City of Hope
Executives from the Southern California construction industry gathered at a gala dinner on October 27 to celebrate the culmination of a year-long fundraising campaign which raised over $1.8 million for City of Hope’s cancer research and treatment programs.

10/29/07 - Macerich executives Mace Siegel, Arthur Coppola lead record $3.4 million campaign for City of Hope
More than 900 executives from the Los Angeles area real estate and construction industry gathered at a gala dinner to celebrate the culmination of a year-long fundraising campaign which raised $1.2 million for City of Hope’s cancer research and treatment programs.

10/17/07 - Stuart Weitzman fashion show and luncheon to support ovarian cancer research
The latest styles from legendary shoe designer Stuart Weitzman will help support ovarian cancer research at the inaugural Ovations for the Cure Southern California Fashion Show and Luncheon on Thursday, November 8.

10/10/07 - The 2007 Spirit of Life Award Dinner, sponsored by AEG, honors Bob Cavallo, Chairman, Disney Music Group
Artists and executives from the music and entertainment industry gathered at a gala dinner on September 27 to celebrate the culmination of a year-long fundraising campaign which raised a record $3.6 million for City of Hope’s cancer research and treatment programs.

10/08/07 - Star 98.7 presents third annual Lounge for Life concert for City of Hope
Matchbox Twenty and its Grammy-winning frontman Rob Thomas will headline Star 98.7’s third annual Lounge for Life, a benefit concert for City of Hope, on Friday, October 26, at the Wiltern Theatre.

10/04/07 - City of Hope appoints new chief financial officer
Dennis Rusch has been named chief financial officer (CFO) for City of Hope. A senior executive with extensive experience in health care finance and operations, Rusch will oversee the institution’s financial operations.

09/25/07 - City of Hope’s 2007 Spirit of Life honoree, Disney Music Group’s Bob Cavallo, raises funds/awareness with “Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana – Best of Both Worlds” sold out national concert tour
City of Hope, a leading cancer research and treatment institution, and Disney Music Group’s Bob Cavallo are joining forces to help support cancer research, treatment and education. Miley Cyrus, the 14-year-old multiplatinum singer and star of the Disney Channel hit show “Hannah Montana,” is donating one dollar from every ticket sold from her sold out 2007-2008 “Best of Both Worlds” concert tour to City of Hope, with a projected goal of raising $500,000 or more from her 54-city tour.

09/06/07 - Macerich executives Mace Siegel, Arthur Coppola to receive top philanthropic honor from City of Hope
Members of City of Hope’s Los Angeles Real Estate and Construction Industry group have named Macerich chairman of the board, Mace Siegel, and the company’s president and chief executive officer, Arthur M. Coppola, as the recipients of City of Hope’s Spirit of Life® Award. More than 800 industry leaders are expected to attend the October 4 dinner at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

09/06/07 - Fight breast cancer with every step at City of Hope's annual San Francisco Walk for Hope to Cure Breast Cancer, October 13
Join hundreds of breast cancer survivors and their families and friends on Saturday, October 13, 2007, at City of Hope’s annual Walk for Hope to Cure Breast Cancer. The 5K Walk will be held at Justin Herman Plaza in San Francisco.
