Fourth Annual City of Hope International Stem Cell Symposium

Innovative Partnerships: U.S.-China Stem Cell and Cancer Discoveries

October 4 to 5, 2012

Overview

This is the fourth annual International biomedical and stem cell symposium organized and presented by the Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope in collaboration with the Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine and Health, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.  Our official government partner is the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Los Angeles.  During the symposium, investigators from China and the United States will highlight cutting-edge research that holds promise of new therapies.

The program will consist of four main sessions, each focusing on a significant or emerging area of biomedical research:  reprogramming and pluripotent stem cells, differentiation and tissue stem cells, cancer stem cells, and cancer mechanism and therapeutics.  City of Hope is a leader in cancer research with an impressive track record of moving basic discovery into first-in-human clinical trials.  Similarly, China has a rapidly growing reputation for innovative research in both areas and has also made significant investment in the growth of stem cell science.

The symposium series, which has been presented at City of Hope since 2009 with international partners in Sweden, Canada and Israel, respectively, focuses on current state-of-the-art research, drug discovery and innovative therapeutics, clinical trials, enabling technologies and partnerships with industry. The goal of the symposium is to spur on-going dialogue and interactions among the participants. This event offers an excellent opportunity for investigators from both sides of the Pacific to meet and explore possibilities for future collaborations and partnerships.

On behalf of the organizing committee, we cordially invite you to participate in this International Symposium.
