City of Hope embodies the spirit of collaboration. Our goal – to shorten the time from scientific breakthroughs to effective new treatments – inspires us to work together with colleagues and supporters around the world. Every day, we reach across corridors and continents to discover new ways to pursue cures for disease, care for patients and educate the next generation of leaders.
City of Hope employs a multidisciplinary approach to cancer treatment, enlisting the expertise of various specialists to address the individual needs of each patient.
Here, treatment teams are composed of caregivers who work in concert to address all aspects of patient care, from oncologists, surgeons and nurses to social workers, psychiatrists, nutritionists and spiritual care providers. Clinicians and scientists also join forces to rapidly and efficiently transform laboratory discoveries into novel, targeted therapies.
Our collaborative pursuits extend beyond City of Hope as well. We frequently conduct clinical trials in partnership with government agencies and other academic centers, ensuring that patients here and elsewhere receive the potential benefit of promising investigative therapies as quickly as possible.
City of Hope is a leader in translational research – a seamless pathway of basic science, clinical research and patient care that empowers important advances in medical progress.
Collaboration is an essential element of translational research, both internally through a multidisciplinary team approach to research and care, and externally through partnerships with other institutions.
City of Hope works with medical and academic centers around the country and internationally on research studies to advance our understanding about cancer, its causes, prevention and treatment. Additionally, our Office of Technology Licensing enables us to work with partnering companies to help develop and bring our scientific discoveries to market for the benefit of all patients.
City of Hope provides education programs for the general public, students and medical professionals as well as our patients and their families. Our education efforts range from forums, health fairs and lectures that help inform the public about various health issues to Irell & Manella Graduate School of Biological Sciences of City of Hope, a highly-regarded Ph.D. program that trains future scientists for careers in academia, medical or industrial fields.
Encouraging careers in science and medicine, City of Hope offers a summer academy for high school and college students to pursue a course of research study that offers practical lab experience and mentoring with institute faculty. Additionally, throughout the year, City of Hope provides continuing medical education, clinical training and scientific lectures in collaboration with leading experts from other medical and research institutions.
For over 100 years, City of Hope’s fundraising efforts have relied on collaborations with individual donors, corporate sponsors, cause marketing partners, civic fundraising groups and fellow nonprofit organizations to raise millions of dollars to support the institution’s lifesaving programs.
From individual grassroots gifts to corporate and foundation grants, City of Hope’s fundraising efforts reflect the collective belief that working together we can find a cure for cancer. Individuals can donate directly to City of Hope or purchase products from our corporate supporters who dedicate a portion of each sale to City of Hope. Companies can dedicate their philanthropic efforts to City of Hope or can sponsor events that support cancer research. And everyone can take part, either as individuals or as a team, in fundraising events such as the national Walk for Hope to Cure Breast Cancer.
