 Research Collaborations

City of Hope is a leader in translational research – a seamless pathway of basic science, clinical research and patient care that empowers important advances in medical progress.

Collaboration is an essential element of translational research, both internally through a multidisciplinary team approach to research and care, and externally through partnerships with other institutions.

City of Hope works with medical and academic centers around the country and internationally on research studies to advance our understanding about cancer, its causes, prevention and treatment. Additionally, our Office of Technology Licensing enables us to work with partnering companies to help develop and bring our scientific discoveries to market for the benefit of all patients.

 Press Releases

5/23/2012 - Nanodevice demonstrates potential to distinguish between prostate cancer and benign enlarged prostate

Prostate cancer can be difficult to diagnose without an invasive procedure, such as a tissue biopsy, to confirm the presence of cancerous cells. City of Hope researchers validated that a nanodevice they developed could distinguish between prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia.

5/20/2012 - Low risk prostate cancers may be more aggressive than initially thought

A study by City of Hope researchers reveals that many patients classified by National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines as “very low risk” did have higher risk prostate cancer after a complete pathological examination was performed.

5/10/2012 - Older cancer patients still underrepresented in clinical trials

Almost 60 percent of American cancer patients are over 65 years old, but this age group only represents 33 percent of the clinical trial population. Furthermore, many studies did not report any participants above the age of 75 — although this group makes up approximately 30 percent of patients with cancer.

5/9/2012 - City of Hope researchers develop potential cure for advanced type 1 diabetes in laboratory

City of Hope researchers developed a combination therapy to treat late-stage type 1 diabetes that appears to offer a potential lifetime cure for the disease without toxic side effects. The laboratory study is published in the May 9 edition of Science Translational Medicine.

4/16/2012 - City of Hope researchers show how cancerous stem cells manipulate their environment to enhance their own growth in chronic myelogenous leukemia

City of Hope researchers have shown how leukemia stem cells hijack the bone marrow where they live, helping them to proliferate, potentially outlast powerful therapy and return to cause cancer.
