Accreditations & Accolades



As a Comprehensive Cancer Center long recognized for its dedication to patient care and innovative biomedical discoveries, City of Hope has received a number of important honors and accolades. In addition, City of Hope has obtained accreditations and designations by all major medical review organizations. A sampling is shown below.

U.S. News & World Report  names City of Hope one of "America's Best Hospitals" for cancer and urology
City of Hope has been named one of "America's Best Hospitals" in two specialties by U.S. News & World Report.  The institution is one of only five centers in California, and one of only two in the Los Angeles area, to appear on the cancer list; and is one of only six hospitals in California ranked in urology.  For more information, visit the press release.

JCAHO Accredited
City of Hope has received full and unconditional accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the nation's most widely recognized health care accrediting body.

Patients Surveyed Rate City of Hope Highly
Patients gave City of Hope the highest possible rating (three stars) in all categories for combined medical and surgical services in the Patients Evaluation of Performance in California (PEP-C II) survey.  PEP-C is the largest scientifically valid survey of patient experience ever published about individual hospitals.  Read more.

City of Hope is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center
In recognition of City of Hope's excellence in cancer research and treatment, City of Hope has been designated a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Only a handful of cancer centers nationwide receive this highest honor in cancer research, which recognizes those conducting the most promising, leading-edge research.

CALS:
City of Hope (COH) is accredited by the Consolidated Accreditation and Licensing Survey (CALS) team. CALS encompasses three health care oversight institutions -- the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, (JCAHO), Department of Health Services (DHS) and California Medical Association (CMA).
DHS: (Department of Health Services, State of California).
CMA: (California Medical Association). For COH's medical staff.
ACGME: (American College of Graduate Medical Education). For COH School of Pathology.
ACCME: (Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education). COH local.
CLIA: (Clinical Laboratory Improvements Amendment of 1988).
FDA: (Food and Drug Administration). For COH Blood Bank and blood-related services.
AABB: (American Association of Blood Banks). For COH Blood Bank and blood-related services.
CAP: (College of American Pathologists). For all COH laboratories.
SC-IRC: (Southern California Islet Cell Resource Center). One of only 10 centers in the nation to be designated as an islet isolation and distribution resource facility and is currently supported by a grant award from the NIH/JDRF.
