City of Hope is one of the country’s select few National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers, and nurses stand at the heart of it. They help administer clinical trials, team with renowned physicians using the world’s most sophisticated technologies and enjoy a low patient-to-nurse ratio, allowing them to bring an unprecedented level of care to patients and their loved ones, from diagnosis and treatment to recovery.

Because City of Hope is a leader in translational research, nurses are directly involved in the development of new treatments that can impact the lives of patients everywhere. They also benefit from working in modern facilities designed for maximum efficiency and comfort.

Critical Care
Critical Care nurses work in City of Hope’s Helford Clinical Research Hospital, one of the most technologically advanced and patient-focused environments in the world. The oncologic medical-surgical ICU provides specialized care to adults and children in all private rooms. Evaluation and Treatment Center nurses address the urgent care needs of seriously ill patients as well as those scheduled to receive sedation for procedures requiring continuous monitoring.
Hematology/Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation
City of Hope is internationally renowned for its pioneering work in the field of hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT), much of which has become the standard of care worldwide. Today we operate one of the largest, most successful bone marrow and stem cell transplantation programs anywhere, having performed more than 8,000 procedures to date. Two floors of Helford Hospital are dedicated to caring for these patients, including those participating in active clinical trials. The HCT Program has both inpatient and outpatient units. 
Pediatrics
The Pediatrics Department embodies City of Hope’s mission to care for the whole person by creating an experience that addresses both the physical and emotional needs of patients and their families. Nurses in pediatrics help to administer investigative therapies and other advanced treatments for children battling life-threatening diseases. Intensive psychological support is also offered, including child life services, recreational therapy, school reintegration programs and more. To ensure a continuum of care, the Outpatient Pediatric Unit is located nearby.
Medical Oncology
Medical oncology nurses collaborate closely with physicians and clinical researchers to bring patients with solid tumors the highest level of expertise and comfort throughout their treatment. Recognized for moving emerging therapies and technologies into clinical practice as quickly as possible, City of Hope’s multidisciplinary oncology team is aggressive in pursing the most promising outcomes possible.
Surgical Services
At the forefront worldwide for its use of advanced surgical technologies, City of Hope’s Surgical Services Department encompasses invasive and non-invasive procedures delivered on an inpatient or outpatient basis. The Post Anesthesia Care Unit is distinguished for providing two levels of care – stage 1 and stage 2 – in a soothing environment.

Nursing Research and Education
City of Hope's interdisciplinary nursing research program pursues scientific studies in oncology clinical nursing care focused on quality of life and symptom management. Study areas encompass diagnosis and treatment of disease to survivorship and end-of-life care, pushing advances in cancer control research and population science.

DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses
Established by the DAISY Foundation, this monthly award recognizes outstanding nurses in more than 50 hospitals across the country. Each month one nurse is nominated by City of Hope's DAISY Award Committee.
