 Kathleen L. Kane

Chief Philanthropy and External Relations Officer

A seasoned development strategist, fundraiser and former attorney, Kathleen L. Kane brings more than 25 years’ experience in planned giving, capital campaigns and donor relations to her role as City of Hope’s Chief Philanthropy and External Relations Officer.  Ms. Kane provides executive oversight for all aspects of City of Hope’s development, communications, and government and community relations efforts.

Prior to joining City of Hope in July 2004, she served as associate vice chancellor of University Development and Alumni Relations at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and vice president of the UCSF Foundation. In these roles, Ms. Kane planned and implemented a successful seven-year, $1.4 billion fundraising campaign for the university. Under her leadership, UCSF's comprehensive giving programs increased private support from $37 million in 1987-88 to more than $200 million each year since 2001.

Before her tenure at UCSF, Ms. Kane established a private law practice in Northern California, specializing in estate planning. She currently serves as chair of the Group on Institutional Advancement of the Association of American Medical Colleges.

Ms. Kane obtained her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts in political science and sociology (with honors) from Whittier College.
