 Dale Adams

Executive Officer, Medical Center

As executive officer of City of Hope’s medical center, Dale Adams, Pharm.D., provides operational oversight and works to ensure excellence in patient safety and quality efforts. He also fosters education and training of medical center staff and collaborates on institutional strategies and governance.

He previously served as vice president and chief pharmacy officer at City of Hope.

Prior to joining City of Hope, Adams served as vice president of medical services at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and Miller Children’s Hospital in Long Beach, Calif.  There he supervised inpatient and ambulatory pharmacy, home health services, pediatric and adult cancer programs and research programs. He oversaw nearly 500 employees and a budget of more than $200 million.

Adams also has extensive teaching experience, including more than 30 years as an adjunct professor with the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy, 13 years as an assistant dean with the University of California, San Francisco, School of Pharmacy, and the past eight years as an assistant clinical professor with Western States School of Pharmacy.

Adams has contributed to numerous professional and civic groups and is a member of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists and the California Society of Health System Pharmacists. He has published articles in journals such as the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy and served as a peer reviewer and editor for several publications, including a stint as contributing editor for the “United States Pharmacopoeia.”

Adams received his doctorate in pharmacy at the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy. He also completed a postgraduate residency program in hospital pharmacy administration from Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of California, Irvine.
