Dan Ross, Pharm.D., is vice president and chief pharmacy officer at City of Hope.
Ross, who previously served as interim director of pharmacy from March to June 2008, rejoined City of Hope in June 2011. He provides vision and leadership for all pharmacy services, as well as for the Diagnostic Radiology, Pathology and Radiation Oncology departments. He oversees the medication use process, including use of investigational products and Food and Drug Administration-approved pharmaceuticals and devices, to ensure safety and efficiency.
Ross has provided consulting services to more than 75 hospitals and health systems throughout the nation, focusing on patient and medication safety, pharmacy operations, regulatory compliance and performance improvement. Since 2009, he has co-hosted Hospital Pharmacy Monthly, an audio continuing education program for pharmacy leaders.
Previously, Ross served as corporate director of pharmacy and medication safety for Catholic Healthcare West, providing oversight of pharmacy services, directing the medication safety program and developing and maintaining a clinical resource website for the 42-hospital system.
He served as chief operating officer for Integrated Support Solutions Inc. in Van Nuys, Calif., and held numerous positions of increasing responsibility at San Gabriel Valley Medical Center, including vice president and chief operating officer, vice president and clinical process manager and administrative director of pharmacy and support services. Earlier in his career, he worked at Memorial Medical Center in Long Beach and at UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) Medical Center.
Ross is a frequent presenter at professional meetings and has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals. He serves on the editorial board of California Journal of Health-System Pharmacy and on the advisory committee of the University of California, San Francisco’s Pharmacy Leadership Institute.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree at UCLA and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy.
