"In for a penny, in for a pound" is particularly important for men. According to Danish researchers, once a man fathers his first child, his lifetime risk of prostate cancer goes up 16 percent. However, after he fathers a second child, each new child cuts his prostate cancer risk by 5 percent. Scientists are unclear why, but the finding is based on 51.6 million man-years of data, making the statistical analysis virtually irrefutable. Of note: The study also indicates the sex of the children makes no difference.
