Did you know?

Heavy drinking ups the risk of prostate cancer. Researchers who studied more than 10,000 men found that those who drank 1.7 ounces of alcohol — the equivalent of four shots of hard liquor — five or more days a week had twice the likelihood of developing high-grade prostate cancer than more moderate drinkers. High-grade prostate cancer is a more aggressive form of the disease; 10-year survival drops 30 to 40 percent as compared to low-grade disease. Though the study was too small to make a definite link between alcohol and prostate cancer, researchers believe the finding might be enough to add prostate cancer to the list of malignancies affected by alcohol consumption. The American Cancer Society has more on risk factors for prostate cancer.
