That glass of milk or cup of yogurt you’re eating could cut your risk of colon cancer significantly. According to researchers who analyzed data from the National Institutes of Health-AARP Diet and Health Study, the chances of getting colon cancer declined as calcium intake rose for both men and women enrolled in the study. For women with the highest calcium intake, the risk was almost one-fourth less than for those with the lowest. Men faired less well but still saw a 16 percent decrease in risk. For more information about colon cancer, including screening, visit the American Cancer Society’s Web site at www.cancer.org.
