Did you know?

Eating meat, especially well-done meat, can boost your risk of bladder cancer. Researchers have long known that meat cooked at high temperatures creates compounds that can cause cancer. A new study compared the diets of more than 880 bladder cancer patients with a nearly equal number of similar people without bladder cancer. The researchers found that those who ate the most red meat were nearly 1.5 times as likely to develop bladder cancer than those who ate the least. Steak, pork chops and bacon seemed to put them at highest risk, but fried chicken and fish contributed, too. The study confirms the link between diet, particularly red meat that’s been fried or barbecued, and cancer. The researchers noted, however, that a person’s genetic makeup likely plays a role, as well. The National Cancer Institute has more information about the link between cooked meats and cancer.
