Did you know?
Women who eat lots of processed meat may be increasing their risk of ovarian cancer. Australian researchers studied over 4,000 women, about half of whom were diagnosed with ovarian cancer. They found that eating four or more servings of processed meat a week seemed to increase risk of the disease by 18 percent. On the bright side, four or more meals that included fish appeared to reduce the risk by 24 percent. The researchers aren’t certain, but they suspect compounds used in the processed meats may be at the root of the increased risk, while omega-3 fatty acids in the fish might lower risk. The National Cancer Institute has more information on ovarian cancer risk and prevention.
