Breast cancer: Clues to better treatment may be in the blood |
| Scientists used to believe that breast cancer that has spread to other places in the body was basically the same as the original tumor. But new research is suggesting otherwise, and treatment may need to change to be effective against the metastasized tumors. |
| Early balding may point to increased prostate cancer risk. French researchers compared nearly 390 men diagnosed with the disease with their healthy counterparts and found those with the disease were twice as likely to have begun losing their hair at age 20. The same correlation did not hold for men who began balding in their 30s or 40s. The researchers acknowledged the need for more study but suggested men who begin losing hair at a young age may benefit from earlier prostate screening or possibly even chemoprevention therapy to stave off the disease. City of Hope has more information on prostate cancer risk factors. |
