| Supportive care focuses on the less tangible side of cancer treatment, aiming to reduce suffering. But it might provide another important benefit. It could save costs. |
| Heavy drinking might increase your risk of lung cancer. Researchers surveyed more than 125,000 people, looking at their diets and lifestyles. Over the following three decades, the scientists tracked how many developed lung cancer. The team found that swigging more than three alcoholic beverages a day increased lung cancer risk by 30 percent, if the drink of choice was wine or liquor. Beer drinking held a bigger threat, increasing risk by 70 percent. But one expert pointed to a fact that clouded the results: Many people smoke when drinking, or drink where others smoke. In any case, the National Cancer Institute recommends limiting both as a good way to keep your cancer risk down. |
