Health specialists discuss the latest news in stem cell research and funding at the recent Association of Health Care Journalists conference. Michael A. Friedman, M.D., president and chief executive officer of City of Hope, second from left, joins the discussion with, from left, Owen Witte, M.D., director of the Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Medicine at UCLA, Martin Pera, Ph.D., director of the Center for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine at USC, and panel moderator Rosie Mestel, deputy health editor of the Los Angeles Times. Nearly 400 journalists from the United States and around the world attended the four-day conference in Universal City, Calif., in mid-March to hear from experts in the field. As one of the sponsors of this year’s conference, City of Hope played host to nearly 25 journalists who toured the Medical Center. Numerous faculty members participated in various health-care panels as well.
