The City of Duarte and City of Hope will hold a contest for the design of their float in the 2008 Rose Parade organized by the Tournament of Roses. The winner, who will come from either Duarte or City of Hope, will see the idea come to life in the upcoming parade.
“With 2008 being Duarte’s 50th anniversary and our 35th year of collaboration, we
wanted to make this year’s float especially unique,” said Kristen Pugh, associate vice president of government and community relations and chair of this year’s float
committee. “And we hope this contest will really get Duarte citizens and City of Hope employees engaged and excited about the upcoming design.”
Design entries must incorporate three elements: City of Duarte’s 50th anniversary, City of Hope pediatric patients as riders on the float, and the 119th Rose Parade theme of “Passport to the World’s Celebrations.” Otherwise, Pugh said, contestants are encouraged to be as creative as possible.
“We are looking forward to getting a lot of original and unique drawings to showcase the wonderful place where we live and work,”
Pugh said.
The deadline for entry submission is April 18, and the winner will receive tickets for two seats at the parade.
For more information about the contest, please contact Elizabeth Bagwell at ext. 65947. Please submit entry marked with the words “Attention: Rose Parade Float Design Competition” to vbenavides@coh.org, or mail entry to Community Relations Dept., Modular 74.
