The City of Hope Information System forms such a crucial backbone to the institution’s future that the system’s organizers are doing their homework to ensure its success.
That homework included online surveys, focus groups and interviews in late spring of about 1,300 employees to gather their concerns about the integrated information system — which will manage City of Hope’s various administrative, financial and clinical data.
Now, armed with a wealth of employee feedback, information system leaders are creating a plan to manage the many changes needed throughout the institution to successfully adopt the new City of Hope Information System.
Those changes, as well as results from the surveys and interviews, will be among the topics open for discussion between staff and leadership in upcoming informal meetings to be scheduled.
Survey results include these attitudes, and more:
Respondents believe the information system is needed, but are concerned City of Hope may not be ready for required changes in workflow (the way staff enter and process data step-by-step through the system).
Physicians are concerned about clinical documentation, but are excited about entering orders electronically. Researchers are enthusiastic about the potential to access additional information.
Respondents understand City of Hope’s strategic vision but cannot necessarily make a connection between the vision and the information system project.
Detailed results and additional information about the information system are available on the intranet at www.coh.org/CIS.
