Elizabeth Dunne has been appointed executive officer of City of Hope’s medical center.

Dunne will provide operational oversight and work to ensure excellence in patient safety and quality efforts. She also will foster education and training of medical center staff and collaborate on institutional strategies and governance.

Dunne was formerly senior vice president and chief operating officer of Anaheim Memorial Medical Center. She will begin her appointment in late August.

“Elizabeth Dunne has extensive experience in managing health care operations and will help to ensure that City of Hope continues to provide outstanding care and services for our patients,” said Alexandra Levine, M.D., chief medical officer.

At Anaheim Memorial, Dunne was the key leader responsible for the operational vision, strategic planning and execution of a number of quality and customer services initiatives. As a result, in 2005 and in 2006, Anaheim Memorial received the Total Benchmark Solution Top 100 Quality Award for Heart Attack Care, Heart Failure Care and Pneumonia Care, making it the only Southern California facility recognized two consecutive years. Dunne also led the creation of a limited liability company with top ambulatory surgeons, oversaw the implementation of a documentation improvement program and developed a state-of-the-art breast cancer center.

Virginia Opipare, executive vice president and chief operating officer, said Dunne has experience improving patient satisfaction while keeping costs under control.

“Patient safety and satisfaction are paramount, and Elizabeth will help City of Hope continue to deliver outstanding quality and service in the most cost-effective manner,” Opipare said.

Dunne received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Queens College in New York and her master’s degree in computer resource management from Webster University in St. Louis. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Hospital Council of Southern California and graduated from the Memorial Care Leadership Academy.
