From left, visiting social workers Lynne Romanowski, Anne James, Bradford Leary, Daniel Snow and Yvette Colon pretend they are family members, social workers, oncologists or other cancer specialists during a recent role-play of a family conference at Cooper Auditorium.

Role-play participants were among more than 140 social workers who traveled to City of Hope from across the country on Aug. 23 and 24 for the Promoting Excellence in Pain Management and Palliative Care for Social Workers conference.  The conference aimed to better integrate social workers into pain management and end-of-life care nationwide.

The Southern California Cancer Pain Initiative and City of Hope’s Department of Nursing Research & Education and Clinical Social Work Department presented the conference, which was co-sponsored through a grant from the Archstone Foundation. (Photo by:  Paula Myers)
