City of Hope today launches Expect to Check, a campaign to educate patients and their families about measures the institution has put in place to make care as safe as possible.

The safety campaign emphasizes partnership between patients, their families and staff to ensure that health-care professionals properly identify patients before drawing blood samples, providing medications or performing other procedures. Posters reinforcing the Expect to Check message will be located in patient care rooms, procedure rooms and waiting rooms, and near check-in lines.

“Because patient well-being and accuracy is our foremost concern, Expect to Check enlists everyone’s participation to make sure patients are properly identified and specimens are properly labeled,” said Jill McCormick, R.N., M.S.N., O.C.N., clinical director of medical oncology and nursing administration.

The campaign coincides with National Patient Safety Week, Oct. 15 to 24.
