Jeffrey Weitzel, M.D., was quoted in a June 5 ABCNews.com story about whether children and teenagers should be genetically tested for BRCA gene mutations, which elevate the lifetime risk of developing breast cancer.

Country singer Carrie Underwood’s participation in the 18th annual Celebrity Softball Challenge was featured by People.com and the New York Daily News on June 8, and Nashville stations WTVF-TV (CBS), WMSV-TV (NBC), WKRNTV (ABC) and WZTV-TV (FOX) on June 4.

Two May 31 U.S.News & World Report Online articles quoted Karen Reckamp, M.D., about using Erbitux and Celebrex to treat lung cancer.  Researchers presented the findings at the 2008 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) conference. The stories also appeared on Forbes.com, WashingtonPost.com and Atlanta Journal-Constitution.com.

Joanne Mortimer, M.D., was quoted in a May 31 U.S.News & World Report Online and Forbes.com story about a study showing that Zometa, a bone-building drug, lowers the risk of breast cancer recurrence. Findings were presented at the 2008 ASCO conference.

New York Magazine.com and WPIX-TV (CW) featured the Redken Cut-a-Thon fundraiser, which supports City of Hope, on June 6.

The LATimes.com blog “Outposts” on June 10 highlighted City of Hope’s The Underwear Affair Presented by Jockey, an Aug. 2 run/walk event that raises funds for cancers below the waist.

News about the National Cancer Institute renewing City of Hope’s designation as a comprehensive cancer center appeared in the Cancer Letter on May 30 and the Pasadena Star-News on June 3.
