Employee vacation accrual limit set to rise

By Brenda Maceo

As part of a series of improvements to employee benefits at City of Hope, leaders have announced they are increasing the cap, or limit, on vacation accrual.

Currently, City of Hope employees may accrue vacation up to a maximum of 240 hours. Effective Aug. 31, this limit will double to 480 hours.

“For a variety of reasons, not all employees are able to use their vacation right away,” said Patti Ossen, interim vice president of human resources. “This change makes sure we don’t penalize employees who are unable to take vacation for personal or work-related reasons, and that they can continue to accrue earned
vacation time.”

About 22 percent of City of Hope employees are at or near the 240-hour limit. The increase to 480 hours will bring the organization in line with industry standards for vacation accrual. The vacation accrual limit increase will apply to all employees, whether part time or full time, and will be reflected on Sept. 19 paychecks.
