Everyone wants to go back to normal, everyday life after surgery, injury or illness. But sometimes that requires a little extra help.

Physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists and recreation therapists play a big part in this rehabilitation — and National Rehabilitation Awareness Week has honored these professionals since 1976.

City of Hope will feature three open houses to spread the word about rehabilitation services during the awareness week, which lasts from Sept. 21 to 27.

Organizers will offer activities and refreshments at the three events, including a quiz and drawing for prizes. Prizes include a free craniosacral therapy session and two free Pilates sessions.

The open houses will be held on these dates:

  • Sept. 23, noon to 2 p.m. — 4th floor City of Hope Helford Clinical Research Hospital gym, room 4026
  • Sept. 24, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. — 6th floor Helford Hospital gym, room 6042
  • Sept. 25, 8 to 10 a.m. — outpatient gym, Main Medical Building, room 1017

National Rehabilitation Awareness Week happens during National Physical Therapy Month, which recognizes and promotes the efforts of about 80,000 physical therapists in the United States.
