Lynx Messenger will provide important instant messages in an emergency. |
As part of emergency preparedness, City of Hope’s Information Technology Services Department will roll out an instant messaging program on all campus computers Nov. 13 — the day of a Southern Californiawide disaster drill. The new program, Lynx Messenger, will keep staff informed and updated on important news during an emergency. Lynx will be used in addition to City of Hope e-mail, and will replace campus-wide e-mail updates during drills and emergencies.
Lynx will be pressed into service during the “Great Southern California ShakeOut” earthquake drill. City of Hope incident command team members will use Lynx to provide updates about campus and activities for the drill.
Computer users will know the program is installed on their computers when a small icon consisting of a blue-green circle with an “M” inside appears in the lower right-hand corner of their screen. When a message is sent through Lynx, an Internet Explorer window will open in front of all other open windows on the screen and display the message.
Once users read a message, they may return to their previous work.
Only authorized members of City of Hope’s incident command team will have the ability to send messages through Lynx.
