 Skateland’s campaign benefits ThinkCure

By Daniel Lacovara

Roller-skating rinks have come and gone in Los Angeles, but Northridge Skateland celebrated 50 years of business with an anniversary party that kicked off a yearlong fundraising effort for ThinkCure, the official charity of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Skateland owners David and Michael Fleming donated all admission fees collected at the Jan. 30 anniversary event to ThinkCure and will donate 25 cents from every skating admission during the year as well. In addition, the Flemings made a $5,000 contribution to kick off the campaign.

“This year is very special to our family,” said David Fleming. “We wanted to share our success during our anniversary year with a deserving charity and we couldn’t think of anything better than ThinkCure.”

The Los Angeles Dodgers, the McCourt family, City of Hope and Childrens Hospital Los Angeles launched ThinkCure last year to raise funds for critical cancer research at the two cancer research institutions.
