main0310 Twenty-five years of royal recollections
Queen Elizabeth II strolls through City of Hope's grounds on Feb. 28, 1983.  Charles Mittman, M.D., executive medical director, left, and Mike Hersch, president of the board, accompany the queen.  Much has changed at City of Hope over the past 25 years, but today, the British monarch still reigns over the Commonwealth.

The queen visited City of Hope and its patients and staff during her nin-day stay in California, arriving at the Duarte campus in a limousine flying the royal standard.  More than 2,000 invited guests and bystanders watched the queen step onto a red carpet, where she was greeted by local dignitaries.  (Photo Courtesy of City of Hope Archives)
