main0317 A real buzz
City of Hope patient Noe marquez, 10, right helps a volunteer shave the head of Arcadia Fire Department capt. Tom Devlin.

Pediatric patients such as Marquez felt the "shear" excitement of a clean headshave when they watched firefighters lose their locks as part of a St. Baldrick's fundraising event held at Matt Denny's Alehouse in Arcadia, Calif., on March 11.

St. baldrick's is the world's largest volunteer-driven fundraising event for lifesaving childhood cancer research.  Organizers hold events every year, around St. Patrick's day, in which thousands of volunteers share their heads in solidarity with children who have cancer, while raising funds and awareness for pediatric cancers.  Funds go to organizations such as Children's Oncology Group, a research cooperative that includes City of Hope.  ( Photo by: Kim Proesholdt)
