Power of music on tap for patients and caregivers

By Laurie Bellman

A new music therapy program will start this week for patients and caregivers. The program, sponsored by the Sheri & Les Biller Patient and Family Resource Center, will help participants to improve pain and physical discomfort, enhance relaxation, develop coping skills and promote positive thinking.

“We are thrilled and proud to launch a new music therapy program here at City of Hope,” said Linda Klein, operations coordinator for the Biller Patient and Family Resource Center. “Music therapy has been shown to help relieve stress and anxiety, and this program supports the medical center’s mission to heal the whole person, through emotional, spiritual and physical well-being.”

Led by music therapist Kimberly Bradstreet, the classes begin May 21 and will run every first and third Thursday of each month from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Classes will be held in the Biller Patient and Family Resource Center activity room and preregistration is required.

To register, call 626-256-4673, ext. 32273 (3CARE).
