“Dr. Wang is a recognized leader in the collection and processing of blood components and stem cells,” said Lawrence Weiss, M.D., chair of the Department of Pathology. “His experience will contribute greatly to City of Hope’s ability to provide excellent patient care and make notable research advances in transfusion medicine.”
Wang joined the Division of Transfusion Medicine in 1996 and has served as a staff physician and acting chief. Prior to working at City of Hope, Wang received his training from the University of California, Los Angeles, American Red Cross blood services and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
“I look forward to continued collaborations with my colleagues as we strive to improve care and outcomes for our patients,” said Wang. “And I am enthusiastic about our division’s recent move into the new Michael Amini Transfusion Medicine Center, which provides additional space and resources for our programs.”
Wang serves on the hematopoietic cell transplant quality management council at City of Hope and the medical advisory committee for the Southern California Region of the American Red Cross. He also is a co-founder and vice president of the International Council for Transfusion Medicine Professionals, a nonprofit organization that aims to advance the manufacture of blood and stem cell products.
