About 500 people attended the event, which included an educational panel discussion featuring health-care experts from the medical community and advocacy groups followed by a question and answer session.

Assemblyman Ed Hernandez moderated the forum, which featured a panel that included Chu as well as Jim Lott, executive vice president of the Hospital Association of Southern California, Steve Tarzynski, M.D., a Los Angeles pediatrician, Marie Torres, Ph.D., of AltaMed Health Services, and Ernie Powell of AARP of California.

Community partners presenting the forum included the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership, the Duarte and Irwindale chambers of commerce, AltaMed Health Services, the American Cancer Society and the East Valley Community Health Clinic.
