A look back: Dedicating Beckman Research Institute
Twenty-five years ago this week — on Jan. 30 — dignitaries, guests and others gathered for dedication ceremonies for Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope. These included the official unveiling of the institute’s sign by administrator Thomas Galinski, left, honorary board chairs Mike Hersch and Mannie Fineman, philanthropist Arnold O. Beckman, Ph.D., Charles Mittman, M.D., executive medical director, and Charlie Todd, Ph.D., chair of immunology.
A $10 million matching grant by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation led City of Hope to rename its research institute in the Beckmans’ honor, making it the first of five Beckman institutes nationwide. (City of Hope Archives)
