Fashionistas can fight breast cancer with style

The Style Network, a cable channel devoted to fashion, home and beauty, has joined City of Hope in the drive against breast cancer.

The network’s new “Fight With Style” yearlong awareness effort integrates on-air and online features, including public service announcements and educational content.

Public service announcements airing on the network raise awareness about early detection of breast cancer and the importance of performing breast self-exams. Viewers are also encouraged to visit the network’s Web site, mystyle.com, to learn more about prevention and detection techniques.

In addition to featuring the announcements, mystyle.com offers a special instructional video from City of Hope breast surgeon Laura Kruper, M.D. Kruper demonstrates the proper way to do a breast self-exam. Companion educational brochures from City of Hope also are available for download.

The effort also has a particularly stylish component. Celebrity jewelry designer Jennifer Fisher has created custom-designed gold and silver necklaces to support breast cancer research, treatment and education at City of Hope: $50 from the sale of each gold necklace and $10 from the sale of the silver necklace will be donated to the institution.

The Style Network is supporting the charitable sales promotion on-air and online. Celebrities such as Brooke Burke, Tia Carrere, Ashlan Gorse and Maeve Quinlan are featured wearing the charms in “Fight With Style” public service announcements to support the cause. Announcements began airing this month, and the pendants will be available for purchase through August 2010 exclusively at jenniferfisherjewelry.com.
